Our educational field trips are the best way to experience everything Austin has to offer, however ATX Kids Club also likes to give back. During long holidays such as spring and summer breaks we engage with different community service activities. This spring break we worked along WITH Raaisin in the Sun to create an amazing garden for Cultivo Cafe located in east Austin. It was a fun and educational activity. Frances Moreno, with Magnolia Realty was a vital player in connecting ATX Kids Club with Raaisin in the Sun.
Raaisin in the Sun advocates and promotes earth conservation projects. While Raaisin in the Sun volunteers worked on the wooden structure, ATX Kids Club was ready to help with everything else! Volunteers and kids had a great time rotating tasks.
Some of us worked on making the space beautiful by removing rocks. It was a challenge that sparked joy whenever a large rock was removed. Hard work didn’t shy our kids away!
There was an art station where kids could hide from the sun and relax while engaging their creativity. Kids were given wood sticks and markers to create signs for our plants. Check out their wonderful designs.
The third station was the actual planting. Kids dug holes, planted herbs and learned how to water them properly. The result of our hard work looks amazing and it will be there whenever we want to go and see it!
We are really grateful for being part of this amazing project and the fun and knowledge we got from it were immense. Cafe Cultivo provided us with delicious food and each kid was gifted a set so they could garden at home. We would love to keep doing projects with other non-profits in the Austin area.
