In the heart of Austin lies one of the tallest Capitols in the United States. Don’t get intimidated by its magnitude, with either self-guided or docent-led tours, you can rest assured it's an awesome place to take your family for an afternoon adventure.
ATX Kids Club has been there many times and every time we learn something new. Here are some of the things you can do with your kids:
There is so much to do on the capitol grounds. Take a stroll around and look at all the memorial statues and monuments. Children love the Tribute to Texas Children display and the Statue of liberty replica. They are also interested in the memorial for the Vietnam Veterans and the Tejano Monument. Find all the information you need online for an awesome tour! Be sure to start at the Texas Capitol Visitor's Center for additional background and historical facts.
You can also have a small picnic under the shade of one of the historic Live Oak trees.
Right next to the capitol you can find the visitor’s center. This is an interactive zone where kids will learn how a bill becomes a law. They can also explore Texas history.
Within the walls of the Capitol you can either tag along one of the free tours or make your own. Don’t forget to look up!
